Engaging Video Based History Curriculum

US History II video curriculum and lesson plans from the Gilded Age to the 1970s.  Video lessons teach students in a way that keeps them interested, engaged, and understanding complex topics as well as the major themes of US history.

Best Practices in History Education

These lessons can be used to support students and diverse learners by meeting them where they are at and allowing them to learn at their own pace and rewatch when necessary.  All History For Humans videos teach through the power of story because we know stories are what help all humans make sense of our history and our present world.  The videos are designed with best practices in teaching that I have gained from twelve years of teaching- beginning with a powerful hook, an exploration question (the interactive notesheet has them create hypothesis so they are thinking going into the lesson, there are dramatic historical images to support visual learners, vocab terms are defined on-screen and some thinking maps are used as well, and complex concepts are broken down and explained in student-friendly terms. Lastly, all episodes close with the significance of the story and history so students understand the relevance of the topic to their own lives!

Building Historical Thinking Skills While Keeping Students Engaged & Interested

Then all lesson plans are designed to build and support creativity, critical thinking, and historical-thinking skills! However, skills and tasks are scaffolded to support struggling and diverse learners still be successful. While all lessons for each episode are unique and varied, there is ample practice with reading and analyzing primary source texts and images to have students really wrestle the complexities of history and develop historical empathy and understand historical controveries that still impact America today.
