This is a great inquiry lesson on women's roles in post-war America.

This contains 5 different documents including two graphs, a political cartoon, a coffee commercial, and two readings including an excerpt Betty Friedan's Feminine Mystique. As students analyze each of the documents they complete a 'history detective' sheet which helps them source each document, find evidence, and consider its reliability.

Then students compare and corroborate the documents before answering the inquiry question. This lesson makes for a great debate and classroom discussion. Students really get into this lesson on women in the 1950s and 1960s.

This lesson is best for grades 9-12 and should take between 60-90 minutes depending how much support students need and if you debate and discuss together.
